At the Summer Computer Simulation Conference 2002 the paper entitled,"The Simulation Industry in Search of Economic Recognition," addressed the issues which arose in attempting to reconcile the problems of extrapolating data that was received from two industry surveys. That paper also suggested some broad directions, which should be taken to improve the industry visibility. The issue of the recognition of the simulation industry and the establishment of the simulation Professional Certification program still requires a good deal of effort.

This Paper will report on the results of an analysis of data extracted for the existing economic reports obtained from government sources. It also makes recommendation regarding the next steps in the process of improving the visibility of the simulation industry. Some specific recommendations will be offered on initiatives that SCS, in conjunction with other organizations involved in modeling and simulation, can take to strengthen the economic posture of the Modeling and Simulation industry.

The paper will also present information on the Occupation Titles associated with the simulation industry and make recommendations as to how those title and be expanded or amended to be inclusive of the job skills that the M&S Professional Certification Program will require.
