Abstract:
The collaborative simulation technology for supporting multidisciplinary communities in civil field and large scale distributed simulation in military field is one of studying hotspots in current research and development on complex system, Which they may need to collaborate in real-time on a given simulation, but they are often at physically separate locations. Especially, the sheer magnitude, scope and distribution of the ¡°system of systems¡± represented by coming complex systems present a major challenge to the capabilities of today¡¯s development teams and their methods, processes, and tools. To meet these challenges, requires a bold, innovative shift and extension in the collaborative simulation connotation, infrastructure and related key technologies.
On the other hand, Grid computing has matured significantly in the past few years. Grid technology is the technology of next generation internet, by which we could integrate the whole network of next generation as a virtual high performance computer to fulfill the shareness and collaborative application among all kinds of network resources (e.g. computing resources, storage resources, data resources, information resources and knowledge resources). In particular, the shift in emphasis from low-level application scheduling and execution to high level problem-solving signals that grid computing will become increasingly important as a way of collaborative application.
Collaborative Simulation Grid (CSG) technology will be studied and utilized in this paper to realize the shareness, reusability and interoperability among various distributed simulation models, tools and application systems to support real time distributed collaborative simulation, real time multimedia simulation environment etc., which would bring changes and innovation to the traditional simulation in pattern of simulation application and management, and supporting technology of simulation,
In this paper, research on architecture (shown in figure1) and its key technologies of collaborative simulation grid undertaken recently by authors and their colleagues are presented. The collaborative simulation grid is the further development of advanced distributed simulation, which involves the modeling and simulation technology based on next generation internet technology.
There are many key technologies related to collaborative simulation grid technology, such as the architecture for collaborative simulation grid, resource scheduling and management technology for collaborative simulation grid, monitoring and management technology for collaborative simulation grid, model scheduling and management technology for collaborative simulation grid, collaborative simulation engine technology for collaborative simulation grid, collaborative visualization engine technology for collaborative simulation grid, HLA/RTI CoG technology (which defines and implements a set of general components that map Grid functionality into HLA/RTI framework, shown in figure2), advanced programming models and user portal technology, etc..
Furthermore, based on the primary study on collaborative simulation grid, some typical application cases of collaborative simulation for supporting multidisciplinary design and analysis on complex product and large scale distributed simulation system are also introduced. The primary practice shows that the collaborative simulation grid supports distributed modeling and collaborative simulation, diversity domain tools integration and interoperation, and provides an effective solution for multidisciplinary collaborative design, simulation and analysis of complex product and large scale distributed system simulation.
