Simulation-Based Assessment of Dense Gas Release Hazard in Industrial Facilities

Abstract:
The accidental release of dense flammable gases such as LPG may cause severe industrial hazard involving both equipment and human lives. The fluid dynamics of dense gas dispersion provides the analytical tools to predict the rate of dispersion of any gas release in the presence of obstacles of given shape and size, such as buildings, fences etc. The model proposed in this paper implements this knowledge into a risk assessment tool capable of analyzing potential hazard for a given facility layout involving multiple configurations of possible release and obstacle arrangements.
